The Sacred Heart church in Uppermill, Saddleworth held a ‘Dying with Dignity’ event last Saturday. Eleven local businesses and organisations gathered in the church hall off the High Street to meet the public.
The event was organised by the Rev John Rosedale in response to a public debate held in Uppermill in earlier in the month. Many parishioners have expressed a desire to take a more active part in the preparations for their funerals and to increase the awareness of caring, counselling and of course Willwriting.
The event was reasonably well attended and it was a chance for the Saddleworth Willwriter to meet other businesess and local church organisations.
It was far from being a sombre morning and I think everyone benefitted in one way or another. I had a very interesting chat with Father Jimmy Stubbs who joined the parish in 2009 after several fascinating years in South Africa.
Thanks to Rev John Rosedale, the organising team and the Sacred Heart.
